Dost thou Pisseth Against the Wall?

Posted 10 Feb 2008 in Blogs, Fun, Jesus, Scripture, Videos

I usually avoid posting twice in one day since it can tend to cause posts to get lost as the noise floor of your daily input raises. This post will be brief:

I first saw this video on Walk The Razor, one of Noel Heikkinen‘s blogs and then later on Tall Skinny Kiwi. Can you say viral video?

I laugh when I watch this but later I find it just sad.

All other thoughts aside, I have a very hard time hearing the word pissETH without cracking up.

    Wow. Just wow.

LiquidRider, have you ever checked out the website for this guy’s church? It helps put this tirade in context.

I found especially interesting the “essays” page which includes other articles/rants by the Pastor (Steven Anderson) on such topics as

Why the King James Bible is the Word of God without Error

Why Bible College is Unscriptural and Wrong.

It should be noted that, in keeping with this doctrine, Pastor Anderson never attended college. I also read the Pastor’s essay on

    The Truth about Homosexuality

which sounds a whole lot like Fred Phelps and the “God Hates Fags” folks in Kansas.

    Thanks for posting.

Agreed, the word pisseth and the faulty logic are the causes of my laughter.

Thanks for commenting and the link. Things do feel more in perspective now and I feel I can safely say this video is quite serious and not a scripted joke.

It’s hard for my heart to not be saddened as I read Steven Anderson’s essays and even to feel angered by his representation of God. But then I see video of people in his Church being baptized, being married, being encouraged to read scripture and know God – even to see pictures of his family, kids and wife – and I have to admit it does seem this man wants to follow Jesus, he wants to preach The Gospel and see people come to know Christ.

And so I trust that God is good and sees this man’s heart and, though I find Steven Anderson wrong and he insights me to anger, that God sees past it and uses Steven Anderson despite himself, just as He does with me.

P.S. This reminds me of a quote from a book I’m currently reading. I may post it tonight when I get home.

Without reading much else on the pastor’s website, I have to say that I don’t think the general sentiment in the video is too far off. I get from it that men are supposed to be men, as God created them. I think ever since the feminist movement, there’s been a slight castration going on with our men.

The verses in Job are brought to mind where God tells Job twice to “brace yourself like a man,” and the verses in Genesis that say “[God] created them male and female.” I think Americans are on their way to believing that there are no differences between men and women, and I really don’t think any good can come from that.

I’ve read books that talk about the heart of this topic, too (Boy Meets Girl, Wild at Heart, A Return to Modesty, etc, etc), and you know I’m very passionate about it. Sure, this guy may be over the top and offensive, but there should be a point taken away from this. God created us differently. We shouldn’t forget it.

Hey Rach, good to hear from you and welcome to my blog.

I agree God has made us different, male and female, to fulfill different roles. Thanks for pointing out the truth that can be reminded us.

Ultimately I found the gross miss-use of scripture and faulty logic/poor interpretation to be sad and offensive. If he desired to give a sermon on Biblical manhood I think he could have done so with passage such as the ones you mentioned.

So I guess I’m saying I agree the sentiment wasn’t to far off, but the way it was delivered and how he made his point sacrificed the communication of that truth.
